What to bring to the inspection

  • The receipt or online payment document showing the inspection fee has been paid
  • Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate (original)
  • Third-party (traffic) insurance certificate (original)
  • Driving licence (original)

The vehicle owner or the driver must be present during the inspection.

Is your vehicle ready for inspection?

According to the announcement, the following is checked on vehicles brought for inspection:

  • Bodywork and windows are clean, paintwork is in good condition; no rust or rot
  • The engine is clean; no oil or fuel leaks
  • Headlights and all other lights work
  • All equipment and fittings are in working order
  • Tyres are sound and within their service life
  • The fire extinguisher is in good condition and has had its annual check

Inspection fee

The fee is paid before the inspection: online, or in Nicosia at the Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing Office (Motorlu Araçlar Kayıt ve Ruhsatlandırma Şubesi), and in the other districts at the revenue and tax offices.

2026 amounts from the fee schedule in the Official Gazette of 30 April 2026. Different amounts apply to first-registration inspections and agricultural vehicles.

Paying the fee does not mean the inspection is done. If the portal says “fee paid, inspection not completed” (“harç ödenmiş, muayene sonuçlandırılmamıştır”), you still need to take the vehicle to a centre.

What happens if you are late?

  • The vehicle cannot be driven. Once the period has ended, it is forbidden to drive a vehicle that has not been inspected (Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Regulations, article 94). The out-of-court fine for driving an uninspected vehicle is 10% of the minimum wage plus 10 penalty points.
  • The road tax licence becomes invalid. The licence of a vehicle without an inspection certificate is not valid until the inspection is done.
  • The fee goes up. For an inspection outside the inspection days, a car pays 2,091 TL instead of 1,394 TL.
  • Road tax cannot be paid. While an inspection fee is outstanding, road tax (seyrüsefer) cannot be paid online.

Vehicle inspection: frequently asked questions

When is vehicle inspection carried out in North Cyprus?

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (Bayındırlık ve Ulaştırma Bakanlığı) publishes an inspection announcement every year. Buses, lorries, vans and similar vehicles, as well as taxis and minibuses, are inspected between November and July; private cars, motorcycles, hybrid and electric vehicles between August and November, according to the first letters of the plate.

What should I bring to the inspection?

The receipt or online payment document showing the inspection fee has been paid, the original Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate, the original third-party (traffic) insurance certificate and the original driving licence. The vehicle owner or the driver must be present during the inspection.

How much is the inspection fee?

In 2026 the inspection fee is 1,394 TL for a car and 418 TL for a motorcycle. If you have the inspection done outside the days assigned to you, a higher fee applies: 2,091 TL for a car and 1,394 TL for a motorcycle.

What happens if I miss my inspection dates?

Once the period has ended, it is forbidden to drive a vehicle that has not been inspected; the out-of-court fine is 10% of the minimum wage plus 10 penalty points. The road tax (seyrüsefer) licence of a vehicle without an inspection certificate is considered invalid until the inspection is done. The inspection itself is then carried out at the higher fee.

I paid the fee. Does that count as inspected?

No. Paying the fee only allows you to take the inspection. If the portal says “fee paid, inspection not completed” (“harç ödenmiş, muayene sonuçlandırılmamıştır”), you still need to take the vehicle to an inspection centre.

Can I take my vehicle to inspection without a road tax licence?

Yes. According to the announcement, a vehicle without a valid road tax licence may be driven to an inspection centre for the purpose of inspection, provided it has a third-party insurance certificate.

What are the opening hours of the inspection centres?

Inspections start at the beginning of office hours and end half an hour before the close of office hours. The centres are in Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Güzelyurt and İskele.
