North Cyprus (TRNC) road tax payment
Road tax (seyrüsefer) is due by the last day of the month in which the car was registered. Here are the steps for paying online, what can block the payment and the difference between annual and six-monthly payment.
- In the registration month
- Due by the last day of the month.
- Online
- On the government’s card payment page.
- 5%
- Discount for four years of regular payment.
Payment deadline
Road tax is due by the last day of the month in which the car was registered in North Cyprus (TRNC). For example, a car registered in April pays by 30 April every year. You can see your own payment period and amount with the road tax check.
Paying online, step by step
- See the debt. The lookup lists this year’s road tax amount and any debt left over from previous years separately.
- Go to payment. The card payment page of the government’s tax portal opens; the payment goes directly to the government.
- Get the receipt. Download or save the payment document.
Only pay at the official address: online.vergi.gov.ct.tr. To avoid fake sites, see the official payment site guide.
Debt that blocks online payment
- Inspection debt. If the car has an unpaid inspection fee, road tax cannot be paid online. Pay the inspection fee first.
Annual or six-monthly?
The licence can be renewed annually or every six months. With six-monthly renewal, the annual amount is increased by 20% and half of it is paid each period.
| For a car with an annual amount of 10,000 TL | Paid |
|---|---|
| Annual payment | 10,000 TL |
| Six-monthly payment (each period) | 6,000 TL |
| Six-monthly payment (total per year) | 12,000 TL |
Example calculation; your car’s amount is shown in the lookup.
5% discount for paying on time
Those who pay road tax on time and without late-payment surcharges for four years, without the car changing hands, pay the next period with a 5% discount. The discount continues as long as you keep paying regularly. Discounts based on vehicle age are covered in the road tax check guide.
If you are late
- A late-payment surcharge is added. A fee not paid on time is collected with a late-payment surcharge under the Collection of Public Receivables Procedure Law (Kamu Alacaklarının Tahsili Usulü Yasası).
- You lose the 5% discount. The discount depends on the fee being paid on time and without surcharges.
- Driving an unlicensed vehicle is an offence. The out-of-court fine is 10% of the minimum wage.
