- The fine is paid within 15 days of being served.
- 2×
- A fine not paid on time is doubled.
- %
- Fines are set as a percentage of the minimum wage.
How is a traffic fine notified?
The fine is served in writing on the vehicle owner or the driver. If the person is not there, the notice is left on the vehicle’s windscreen. Speed camera fines may also be delivered by the police or by an authorised delivery company.
Under the law, unless proven otherwise, the vehicle owner is deemed to be the driver.
Can you check traffic fines online?
As of 18 October 2026, neither the Police General Directorate (polis.gov.ct.tr) nor the e-Government (edevlet.gov.ct.tr) website offers an online traffic fine lookup or payment service. Keep track of your fine using the notice you were given.
If you want to see the photo for a fixed speed camera fine, and the fine has not been paid yet, the vehicle owner can apply to the Traffic Radar Branch (Trafik Radar Şubesi) at the Police General Directorate; a revenue stamp is required for the application.
Payment period and what happens if you don’t pay
- Pay within 15 days. The fine is paid within 15 days of being served, at the place stated on the notice, against a receipt.
- After the deadline, the fine doubles. A fine not paid within 15 days is increased by the same amount again.
- If it is still unpaid, legal proceedings follow. If the increased fine is also not paid within 15 days, the file is sent to the Attorney General’s Office (Hukuk Dairesi) for legal action.
For offences such as driving under the influence of drugs, refusing a breath test and exceeding certain alcohol limits, the payment period is 3 days; if the fine is not paid, the person is brought before a court.
When does a case go straight to court?
Under the 2025 amendment to the law, in the following cases no fine is issued and the driver is referred directly to court:
- Dangerous driving for the third time within 15 months
- An accident involving injury where the victim files a complaint
Fines related to vehicle documents
Traffic fines are set as a percentage of the minimum wage; when the minimum wage changes, the fine amounts change too. Fines related to road tax (seyrüsefer), vehicle inspection (MOT) and insurance:
| Offence | Fine | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Driving without third-party insurance | 25% | 20 |
| Driving without a valid vehicle inspection | 10% | 10 |
| Driving without a road tax licence | 10% | — |
| Uninspected vehicle detected by electronic enforcement | 10% | 10 |
| Vehicle without a road tax licence detected by electronic enforcement | 10% | — |
From the penalty schedule in force since 2 April 2025. If penalty points exceed the limit within a certain period, the driving licence is temporarily revoked.
All three of these fines come from missing a date: inspection, road tax and third-party insurance.
